Jun B. Lopez

Atty. Renato B. Lopez, Jr. is a seasoned and well-rounded lawyer who has built a solid and comprehensive legal practice for the last 25 years. Jun, as he is fondly called by friends, honed his topnotch lawyering skills handling various aspects of corporate law and litigation work in his capacity as Associate, Senior Associate, and Partner in the well-established law offices of SyCip Salazar Hernandez & Gatmaitan; Puyat Jacinto & Santos; and Paredes Lopez & Garcia, respectively. His years of law practice with these firms, working with some of the most celebrated legal luminaries in the country, have more than adequately exposed him to a broad spectrum of legal issues, ranging from simple corporate housekeeping chores to complex and often misunderstood commercial law topics and transactions. He has likewise immersed in almost all aspects of civil, criminal, and administrative litigation.

On the government side, Jun also served as Consultant to various agencies of the Executive Department. He served as Consultant to the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (“IACAT” or the “Council”) under the Department of Justice (“DOJ”), helping them craft various rules and regulations, both for internal and external application, in order to enhance the Council’s capacity for case build-up. Jun also served as Consultant to the Department of National Defense (“DND”), sitting in various committees tasked to review defense bi-lateral and multi-lateral agreements, as well as to investigate anomalous procurements involving billions of government funds. His latest government stint was with the Department of Transportation (“DOTr”), where he again served as Consultant, joining a team tasked to conduct appellate review of cases decided by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (“LTFRB”).

Jun is also a seasoned developmental law practitioner, having served as Deputy Country Director of the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (“ABA ROLI”). With millions of dollars worth of funding successfully solicited from various donor-agencies, ABA ROLI helped conceptualize, implement, and manage various judicial reforms projects in the Philippines, which included training of judges and various court personnel, assisting the Supreme Court craft new rules and amend existing ones, conducting capacity-building activities, and strengthening stakeholder engagements. As Deputy Director of ABA ROLI, Jun was in-charge of overseeing these projects, to help ensure the timely and satisfactory completion of ABA ROLI’s commitments and deliverables. Recently, Jun also served as Consultant to the European Union’s justice reform portfolio. Working closely with the DOJ, Jun served as a Senior Local Expert advising the EU and DOJ on matters relating to police-prosecutor coordination for improved case build-up.

As a fitting complement to his robust law practice, Jun is also part of the legal academe. He is currently a part-time Lecturer of law, teaching Legal Ethics, Legal Writing, and Legal Forms at the Far Eastern University Institute of Law. He also lectures on Philosophy of Law at the University of Makati School of Law.

Atty. Lopez obtained his undergraduate degree in Legal Management from the Ateneo de Manila University, and his J.D. degree from Ateneo de Manila Law School. He was admitted to the bar in 1997.
